Solid oak ages beautifully when it is looked after. Dust regularly with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth, always wiping in the direction of the grain, and dry any spills straight away to avoid water marks.
Keep oak out of direct sunlight and away from radiators or vents, which can dry the timber and cause fading or movement. Use coasters, placemats and felt pads to protect the surface from heat, moisture and scratches.
A few times a year, treat the wood with a suitable furniture oil or wax to nourish it and refresh the finish. Avoid harsh, chemical cleaners, which can strip the natural surface.
